MAKE EVERY DAY A HEALTH SPA DAY

Ahh….the Spa-ahhh. . .How wonderful it feels when you are in that tranquil, scented environment. The senses are stimulated from head to toe through touch, smell, surroundings, and taste. Even your soul feels pampered from the pride and pleasure of self-care.

Spas know that natural pleasures are a popular favorite among spa-goers. Spas work really hard to help re-create nature for you. Don’t lose sight that you too have the ability to access the same natural forces and incorporate them into your daily life. It is possible for you to Make Every Day A Spa Day!

Maybe you’re feeling tired or stressed out? You don’t have to wait to go to the spa. Create a relaxing environment at home!

13 WAYS TO HAVE AN AT HOME HEALTH SPA DAY

(plus a bonus health spa day schedule at the bottom of this post):

–Wake up with the sun rather than with an alarm

There is nothing more jarring, to the body and mind at rest than the piercing shrill of an alarm clock to wake it out of its restorative sleep. The penetrating sound of a noisy alarm can start the day off on a stressful note. It can create the natural release of adrenaline, which increases the heart rate, which then creates a cascade of symptoms already leading you to stress, and you haven’t even gotten out of bed yet!

There are options to these noisy alarms such as mechanical re-creations of nature sounds, but why not have the real thing? Open your window and tune yourself into the soft hum of natural bird sounds in between 5 to 6am. The sounds and vibrations of the birds at this hour are positive subliminal frequencies that can balance your energy system.

–Enjoy a morning walk

It is said that the morning dew holds a special frequency that can revitalize your energy field, especially if you walk on the dew-ridden grass. The other benefits of the morning walk are that it can lower your stress level before you even get started for the day. It also gives you a chance to organize your thoughts, plan and visualize your day.

–Put music on with the coffee (or herbal tea)

Set the mood you want to create for the day by choosing music to play in the morning as you get ready for your day. Play party music if you want a fun day, soothing music if you want a peaceful day, or classical music if you need to do a lot of thinking in the day.

–Stretch in the shower

Hot water in your morning shower can loosen up muscles so it is easier to get a good stretch. Muscles that are stretching are using more oxygen and create more circulation just by the simple fact they are in motion.

–Eat a balanced breakfast

Eating right in the morning is another way to set the tone for the day. Your endocrine system (the part of the body that helps to handle stress) gets the right message and fuel to deal with the stress that it will have to handle. Protein and complex carbs are the way to go in the morning!

–Journal and Set Goals

Recording thoughts, intentions, and results is a good thing to do at the beginning and end of your day. With your morning coffee and your calendar in front of you, create your “to do” list for your chores, your self care, and even include the positive thoughts you want to think! Check out our Balanced Eating Journal to help with your at home spa day.

–Plan to move your body

Whether it’s at lunchtime or during the evening winding down hours, getting your body moving for at least 30 minutes at some point in the day is critical for your lymphatic system. The lymphatic system needs movement to do its job of detoxifying the body. Along with delivering more oxygen and increasing cardiovascular circulation, mobilizing lymph by movement is one of the best daily treatments.

–Clear desktop clutter

Clearing clutter from your workspace and environment can help clear the clutter of the mind. It can enable you to become more creative and productive. Take 3 to 5 minutes to clear your work environment of clutter.

–Breathe and be present in the process of your day

Remember it’s the journey, not the destination. If the end of your workday is the goal of your day, you may wan t to re-frame how you view your day. If that doesn’t work then get another job where you will not be so attached to finishing the day.

–Enjoy family and friends in the evening

Sharing community projects or just joining together for the purpose of being together is a healthy way to solidify your day. Spending quality time with loved ones is a good way to reinforce your reason for being. Whether it’s about you being important to someone or someone being important to you, sharing time together from the heart and hearth is balancing for the soul.

–Take a Home Spa bath

There is no better way to end the day then to soak in your private tub filled with bubbles, salts, or special oils. Immersing your body in water (a shower can be just as effective!) can help to clear the events of the day from your aura and relax the body. This naturally relaxes the mind and it’s a great segue to a sound restorative sleep.

–Use essential oils to help your day and night

Essential oils can allow you to take the spa experience into every moment of your daily and nightly routine. Not only do they create an aromatic environment, but the actions of therapeutic grade essential oils (to be differentiated from perfume oils), can address little troubles that come up in every day life such as: headaches, stomach trouble, sinus issues, difficulty sleeping, and even emotional fluctuations! A daily arsenal to have on hand would be peppermint, lavender, lemon, Peace & Calming, and Pan Away (the last two are trademarked blends from Young Living Essential Oil Company). Dowse your body, your carpet, your workspace, and your friends (or adversaries!) with essential oils to make your days and nights go smoother.

–Meditate

Take some quiet time to meditate and focus on relaxing your mind and body. Sit quietly and think about your goals, what you’re grateful for and what you want to focus on to keep your life positive and moving in the right direction. Deep breathe, close your eyes or simply journal in silence as you focus on what you want…not what you don’t want.

BONUS: HEALTH SPA DAY SCHEDULE

Morning: Wake up at your own pace. Relax, read or meditate for 10 – 20 minutes. Write down what you’re grateful for today.

Morning Movement: Get in 30 minutes – 1 hour of cardio, strength or any combination of the two.

Morning Meal: Start the day off healthy! This sets the tone for the rest of the day. Since you’re having a health spa day, we want this meal to be nutrient dense and filling at the same time. Try sautéing spinach or kale in garlic and coconut oil and adding scrambled or over easy eggs on top. You’ll get a healthy does of greens, protein and healthy fat.

Late Morning: Journal about your goals – both short and long term. Where are you at in reaching them. What changes can you make to inch yourself further toward them?

Afternoon: Head to your favorite spa for a massage or facial. Let someone else pamper you for a change!

Afternoon Meal: Let’s keep things light and healthy! Indulge in a salad or sauté dish packed with vegetables, your favorite fish or protein (or plant based protein) on top with a simple dressing of either lemon juice or balsamic vinegar with olive oil. Get as many nutrients and colors in as possible.

Late Afternoon or Early Evening: Get in a little yoga, meditation or stretching to keep the body moving and flexible.

Evening: Plan an evening with your favorite person or people. Enjoy the company of people who will make you feel good, keep you laughing and who support your goals.

Evening Meal: Enjoy one of your favorites but “healthify” it. Choose to replace something unhealthy with something better for you. Example: Pizza – if you typically have a pizza loaded with meat, try having just one meat and adding 3 or 4 vegetables to up level the amount of nutrients.

Evening Wind Down: Turn off electronics at least 2 hours before you go to bed. Listen to music, read or enjoy a hot bath to get you relaxed and ready for sleep. Zzzzzz….
